POSITION: School Based Mental Health Support

SALARY: $ 4,290-$ 6,061 monthly (State Salary Schedule) (Grant Funded ends June 2026) 

WORK LOCATION: To Be Determined

OVERALL GOAL: To provide mobile crisis management and supervision to students in the district to improve the quality of classroom instruction.

EMPLOYMENT: 10 MONTHS

REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree from an accredited University or College - degree in mental health, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. Licensed in the State of North Carolina to provide mental health services, (LPC, LSW, LSCW, etc.)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Provides direct mental health services to include intake assessment, individual/family/group therapy to assigned students
  •  Meets with families and other interested parties in order to exchange necessary information during the assessment/treatment process.
  •   Acts as student advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Serves as part of the School Threat Assessment Team
  •  Guides students and staff in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with identified problems.
  •  Plans, organizes and leads structured programs of counseling activities for students and interns
  •  Conducts specialized group therapy as necessary (including but not limited to - anger management, bereavement, etc.).
  •  Gathers information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy
  • Refers students/families/staff to community resources or to specialists as necessary
  •  May participate in a variety of meetings including IEP meetings, case reviews, multi-agency meetings
  •  Maintains regular contact with the parent/guardian of each student
  •  Assists in carrying out specific training, educational, programs, and outreach designed to train staff and families to identify the early warning signs of mental health issues, to address health/behavioral needs, and how to access internal and external resources
  •  Participates in the collection of mental health information and student outcome data to be used for monitoring the overall performance and effectiveness of services provided
  •  Follows-up on student progress at 15, 30 and 60-day intervals for up to one school year
  •  Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and clinical supervision to ensure appropriate delivery of services
  •  Learns about new developments and best practices in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies
  • ?Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services and/ or the Assistant Superintendent
